Michigan Family Resources helps families meet their needs. If your child is enrolled in the Early Head Start program, the following services are available to you:

Child Development and Education

  • Individualized planning to promote each child’s development
  • Screening and assessments monitoring each child’s development milestones
  • Support and referrals when the child needs services not provided through Early Head Start

 

Family Support

  • Support and referrals to meet families’ needs (including education, job access, crisis intervention, etc.)
  • Parent meetings and parent/teacher conferences to share information about parenting, child development, and various life skills (budgeting, meal planning, stress management, etc.)

 

Health Support

  • Assistance in monitoring and maintaining current immunizations and well-child check ups
  • Hearing and vision screening
  • Support for children with special needs
  • Pre- and post-natal information and support for pregnant women

 

Literacy

  • Book reading activities several times every day
  • Provide families with age appropriate books
  • Training and resources for parents and child care providers regarding early literacy activities

 

Nutrition

  • Children receive nutritious meals and snacks in accordance with the federal Child and Adult Care Food Program guidelines
  • Support and referrals when there are questions concerning nutrition

Parent Involvement

  • Volunteer in classrooms and child care homes
  • Participate in conferences and home visits to support your child’s education and development
  • Contribute to program planning by joining the Parent Policy Council

Transition

  • Support from the Community & Parent Relations Specialist and the Early Head Start Family Service Worker to help a child’s transition from Early Head Start to Head Start or other preschool programs
